Welcome Remarks from the Program Chairs

Louise Thwaites, Asia Pacific Sepsis Alliance (APSA) &
Michael Wong, Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety (PPAHS)

On April 23, 2024, the Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA) and the Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety (PPAHS) will be delighted to host the 2024 World Sepsis Congress Spotlight: Unmet Need in Sepsis Diagnosis and Therapy.

As we navigate through uncertain times – especially in global health – it is crucial to come together as a community and exchange insights, share experiences, and forge innovations for responding to the global challenge of sepsis, which continues to affect 48.9 million children, women, and men every year and remains associated with 1 in every 5 deaths worldwide.

Throughout 9 distinctive sessions, globally renowned clinicians, researchers, experts, and thought leaders will cover the need for early diagnosis and treatment of sepsis in surgical patients, data, AI, and predictive modeling in sepsis, how hypervolemia increases the mortality rate in sepsis, the role of biomarkers, detecting sepsis in ventilated patients, pediatric sepsis, including the new ‘Phoenix Criteria’, as well as personalized approaches to sepsis management. The renewed ‘Global Agenda for Sepsis’ will also be presented as the new multi-year strategy for the global sepsis response.

This exciting program manifests our ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering dialogue, and driving positive change, and it will be of interest to medical professionals, patients and families, academia, policymakers, civil society, and industry alike.

As always, WSC Spotlight will be free of charge and take place entirely online, providing an inclusive and low-threshold opportunity to learn from the comfort of your own home, office, or wherever you have an internet connection. After the congress has concluded, all 9 sessions will be made available on our YouTube Channel and as a podcast for those unable to access them in real-time.

It is with immense pleasure and pride that we as Program Chairs extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you to the 2024 WSC Spotlight. We are certain April 23 will mark a significant milestone as we gather virtually, transcending geographical boundaries, and embracing the spirit of collaboration and innovation.

We look forward to seeing you on April 23, 2024!
